Scientific Information Center for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation in Odessa, Ukraine

18 December, 2008 a Scientific Information Center for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation opening took place in Odessa.
The Center is being founded by the Institute of Social Transformation at South Ukrainian Pedagogical University supported by the Lithuanian Embassy in Ukraine together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and National Center of Euro-Atlantic Integration.

Objectives:
Providing public information on NATO goals and activities, as well as informing on NATO - Ukraine cooperation and the relevant policies of NATO Allies.

Target audience:

• Opinion formers (local intellectuals, prominent personalities in business, culture, religion, education, etc.);
• Local and regional administration;
• Academic community;
• Local NGOs;
• Youth;
• Private citizens;
• Media representatives.

 Activities:

• Public information campaigns,
• Distribution of publications;
• Providing information to those interested in NATO and Euro-Atlantic integration;
• Organizing seminars, aimed at training teachers or public speakers on Euro-Atlantic integration issues;
• Organizing academic workshops;
• Cooperation with other Euro-Atlantic information centres in Ukraine.
• Monitoring regional media, preparing regular review on NATO related publications, providing feedback or response, where relevant.
• Liaising with and providing assistance to activities on Euro-Atlantic integration issues in the region, organized by NATO Information and Documentation Office, Ukrainian MFA and other concerned government bodies, NGOs, Lithuanian Embassy in Kyiv.

Expected result
Increased public awareness on NATO and Euro-Atlantic integration related issues.

The Centre will be established in accordance to the project agreed by the founding institution and approved by the sponsoring institution, the Lithuanian Embassy in Kyiv.

The Centre will be administered by a Director, appointed by the founding institution, in coordination with Advisory/Steering Board, comprised of representatives from the local government, NIDC, Ukrainian MFA, Lithuanian Embassy in Kyiv.

The activities of the Centre will be organised according to annual action plans, drafted by the administration of the Centre and approved by the Advisory/Steering Board, and implemented via specific projects, approved by the Advisory/Steering Board and the sponsor institutions.
